Dedicated to a policy of offering only art of the finest quality, we have in the past presented the works of just one living artist, Russell Chatham. Now, we are pleased to introduce a second living artist who meets this same standard of artistic integrity, Bill Hosner. Born in Detroit in 1950, for seventeen years Bill worked from his studio as a highly successful illustrator. During that time he achieved national recognition and was honored with many accolades, as well as receiving numerous awards for his outstanding advertising art. At the peak this flourishing career, Bill made the decision to leave the commercial art field, intent upon embarking upon a new pursuit that would provide him the freedom to realize his full potential as a creative artist. Commercial art's loss was serious art's gain . . . for now Bill Hosner is demonstrating his true genius as a master of plein air and figurative art. Using the medium of pastel painting, like a poet with the written word, Bill is able to capture in his paintings the energy and spirit of each subject he portrays. During the short time since leaving the world of commercial art, Bill has garnered a long list of major awards, including in 2001 the Arts & Antiques Magazine's Emerging Artist Award at the Carmel Plein Air Art Competition; the 2004 Pastel Society of America's Joseph V. Giffuni Memorial Award; receipt of the Gold Medlallion and induction into the Masters Circle of the International Association of Pastel Socities at its International Convention in 2005; and the Best Pastel Award at the 2005 Carmel Plein Air Art Competition. A person of great introspection, Bill cites a line from a poem by Emily Dickenson as best reflecting his philosphy about art . . ."That it will never come again is what makes life so beautiful."
